Votes:0 FIGHT/FIGHTMASTER Family The name Fightmaster rarely appears before pioneers reached Kentucky. Even now some people refer to the name interchageably as Fight or Fightmaster, saying, "it's the same name," so when searching for death certificates in the Kentucky Vital Statistics one must look under both spellings. In the United States, Kentucky is the only state with a sizeable number of people retaining the spelling FIGHTMASTER. Presumably, the original name is "Pennsylvania Dutch" [meaning they came from Germany and spoke "Deutch"] and began as Veit or Veith. As an"h" is silent after a consonant, a "V" is pronounced as "F", and the "ei" combination is pronounced as an English "I", the Veit and Veith would both be pronounced as Fight. Votes:0 Data and Documents for: The FONDREN and COLE Families of North Carolina and South Carolina Land Records | Legal Problems | Misc. Records | Richard and Sarah | Travels | A Loyalist | A Patriot | Death | The problems finding the origins of the Coles and Fondrens in North and South Carolina is partly due to the unclear boundaries that existed in that area for many years. In 1764 the area east of the Catawba River, and in 1772 the area west of the river was surveyed. The disputed areas lie in the present South Carolina counties of Marlboro, Chesterfield, Lancaster, Yourk, Chester, Union, Cherokee, Spartanburg, Greenville, Laurens, and Newberry. In the period just after the survey these areas were considered in Craven or Berkeley counties, and St. Mark's or St. David's Parish, South Carolina. T Read More Go to Site
