Votes:0 Musical Periods There has been much interest in historic periods as they apply to
music - Baroque, Renaissance, etc. - therefore, for convenience,
composers listed herein are identified with their period. The terms used
for the various historic periods are borrowed from art history, and often
follow similar developmental trends in painting, sculpture, literature,
and architecture. Although any such groupings are at best arbitrary, it
may help you to associate composers with the predominant styles
flourishing during these periods, and thus make it easier to find music
that you will like that for now may be unfamiliar. Please bear in mind
that the placement of a composer in any one specific period is an
arbitrary choice based on flexible definitions. For this reason, dates of

into gamelan (percussion orchestra) music in the South and chamber

picked one disc out of several similar ones, based on my own
preferences (and perhaps a lack of commitment to exploring the full
variety of some of this repertory). Some of this music is better

Votes:0 Music Hall Music From Gregorian Chant to Opera's Origins Throughout the Renaissance, music formed a central element in the
activities of the curia and a bright thread in the rich tapestry of
Roman religious and artistic life. The singers and composers of the
papal choir -- recruited at first from northern Europe, but in the
sixteenth century chiefly from Spain and Italy -- appeared at daily
services in the Vatican Palace and on greater occasions in the Sistine
Chapel. They performed both the traditional chants of the Middle
Ages, using splendid chant manuscripts, a few of which are exhibited
here, and modern, polyphonic music of great richness and difficulty. In the course of the sixteenth century, the authorities became
dissatisfied with the traditional melodies, which seemed to obscure

Votes:0 Saxophone Click here for more pictures of the saxophone. Did you know? Adolphe Sax invented 14 different kinds of saxophones! History of Instrument The newest of the woodwinds, it was invented by Adolphe Sax, a Belgian. He was born in 1814, and as a child he learned to make instruments in his father’s shop. At the Brussels Conservatory, he studied the clarinet and the flute. In 1840, Sax decided to construct an instrument that would fulfill the middle range sound of a military band. The sound that he was seeking would be between the woodwind tone of the clarinet, and brass sound of the trumpet. He moved to Paris in 1842, and completed his work in 1845. The created instrument he named the "saxophone". It was soon taken up by many French orchestral composers. The saxophone sta Read More Go to Site
