Toine's Polymer Clay Pages The Rhode Island Polymer Clay Guild In the summer of 1999 a few friends and I started the RIPCG. The goal of our guild is to spend one day a month with like-minded people and share techniques and ideas. Now, seven years later, our guild consists of about 20 women from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and even one from Washington, D.C. who lives in Rhode Island in the summer months. We meet on the fourth Saturday of each month for five hours in Woonsocket and in Warwick (alternating months). Guild Days Every guild day is a hands-on clay day. After a brief update about what's going on in the guild, members will exchange ideas, suggestions, and tips. There is always at least one demo. Polymer clay is a synthetic material sometimes referred to by the brand names Sculpey or Fimo. It's available in a huge range of colors and bakes to hardness at less than 300° F. It's a relatively new art material, but some of the techniques used have been borrowed from other media and are centuries old. Other techniques have been developed specifically for this polymer clay. Homemade clay projects for kids

Homemade clay projects for kids Make animals, beads, or a memorable hand print with these crafty ideas. Clay craft is wonderful to do with kids in school, with church groups or at home. There are a variety of recipes. Some are for air-hardening clay, others are for bake-in-the-oven clay. There is also a clay, similar to play dough which can be used over and over again. Working with clay is an experience. You sink your hands into the clay and feel the cool, malleable material. Then you turn that lump of clay into a recognizable object whether beads for a necklace, or a pot, sculpture, or other item. The fun is in the making of the clay, the forming of the clay and the finished object. Clean up is easy and the cost is low to moderate. And best of all, once you start working with clay you can Read More

These fake flower leis are a craft-fair sensation By Malia Rulon Star-Bulletin "IS that real ? Where did you get that?" By now, lei-maker Jennifer Aki is used to these questions. She has been stringing puakenikeni, pakalana, pikake, ilima and crown flower for the last couple of years. But she doesn't use flowers. She uses FIMO, a type of polymer clay that can be blended to create original colors and formed by hand into any shape one can imagine -- whether teddy bears or Spam musubi -- then baked to last. But it's the FIMO leis that are attracting all the attention. "It looks exactly like the real thing, so it's Read More

The Polymer Clayspot

Jeanne's World A few years ago, a group of friends invited me to a party. They were going to spend a few hours playing with something called "Fimo" - some sort of colored clay. "You can do really neat things with it," they said. "We'll make some beads," they said. "It's completely cool,", they said. "No, we can't explain it any better than that - you have to actually see it in action," they said. A few hours, and I was undone. I've been addicted to the stuff since. Wander through the gallery ... ...and see a few of the things I've made. Most of my jewelry work now is done in polymer clay. I also use glass and brass beads and wire, but the clay appeals to me because of its protean quality - I can make it look like ivory or jade, like polished handworked glass, like sandstone, or like nothin Read More

The Metropolitan Detroit Polymer Art Guild began in 1993 by a smallgroup of polymer clay artists under the direction of Marie Johannes. Fourteen years later, our group has grown to over 60, with members from not only the Metro Detroit Area, but from all over Michigan, as well as several from out-of-state. We are an enthusiastic group of clayers, ranging from the beginner to the seasoned veteran. Besides polymer clay, our members are diverse in their skills and interests, including doll making, jewelry, sculpting, book making, painting, stamping and mixed media. Together, all this talent creates a rich and exciting setting to cultivate and spark creativity! Some of our membership have taught workshops?all over the country?and many are published in polymer and other craft books. And from th Read More

You will probably have to fiddle around some to get yours to sou Read More
